Abstract

The present report documents the implementation of an AI framework for wildlife simulation purposes. The Virtual Savannah project is used as a base to analyze the improvements that dynamic agent-based behaviour can add to a simulation compared to scripted behaviour, where events are predefined. With the help of flocking AI and combined steering behaviours, a set of different animals have been given autonomous AI, and in some cases strategic thinking and decision making. The results have been tested by running a series of simulations on different setups, together with a stress test. A quantitative and qualitative analysis has been performed, concluding that the emergent behaviour and dynamism has been succesfully achieved, although further improvements for robustness and added complexity are needed to complement some of the behaviours.
