This thesis explores how architecture can create a meaningful meeting place that is rooted in its historical, cultural and physical context. Focusing on Hasserisgade 10 in Aalborg, it develops a design proposal for Væksthuset—an open and inviting people’s house that brings together emerging artists and institutions to foster mutual inspiration and collaboration across music, visual arts and performance. The project adopts an integrated, iterative process combining case studies (including a theatre, a student village and Folkehuset Absalon), site and urban analyses (mapping, flows and nodes), program development, and presentation through diagrams, plans, sections and visualizations, complemented by technical studies, structural principles and a sustainability approach supported by LCA assessment. The architectural strategy employs transparency and contrast to both integrate with the existing context and establish a distinct identity. The proposal accommodates Det Hem’lige Teater and acts as a shared meeting place for the institutions already on site, while opening toward the city’s future development. The aim is an architecture that makes growth and people visible, engages in dialogue with existing buildings without competing with them, and creates a dynamic cultural hub for North Jutland.

Specialet undersøger, hvordan arkitektur kan skabe et meningsfuldt mødested, der er forankret i sine historiske, kulturelle og fysiske omgivelser. Med udgangspunkt i Hasserisgade 10 i Aalborg udvikles et designforslag til Væksthuset – et åbent og inviterende folkehus, der samler vækstlagets aktører og giver plads til gensidig inspiration og samarbejde på tværs af musik, billedkunst og scenekunst. Projektet bygger på en integreret og iterativ designproces med casestudier (bl.a. teater, studieby og Folkehuset Absalon), sted- og byanalyser (kortlægning, flows og noder), programudvikling, samt visualiseringer, planer og snit, suppleret af tekniske studier, konstruktive principper og en bæredygtig tilgang understøttet af LCA-vurdering. Det arkitektoniske greb arbejder med transparens og kontrast for at integrere sig i den eksisterende kontekst og samtidig markere en tydelig identitet. Forslaget rummer Det Hem’lige Teater og fungerer som fælles mødested for de institutioner, der allerede findes på grunden, samtidig med at det åbner sig mod byens fremtidige udvikling. Målet er en arkitektur, der synliggør vækst og mennesker, som dialogerer med de eksisterende bygninger uden at konkurrere med dem og skaber et dynamisk kulturelt samlingspunkt for hele Nordjylland.
