Abstract

This fourth-semester master's thesis explores tectonic design through a design proposal for a kindergarten in Nørresundby, Denmark. Tectonic design focuses on how a building is assembled and how its structure is expressed in the experience of space. The project aims to revitalize traditional carpentry methods in a contemporary context by combining time-tested craft knowledge with modern materials and technologies. It pays particular attention to the relationship between construction and interior qualities, as well as to structural, material, and spatial qualities. Both the design and the design process are shaped by the project's context—the local site and surroundings.
