Abstract

This thesis investigates whether Thailand’s military government has significantly influenced national energy policy by shaping the Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint (TIEB). It uses a case study design to trace how the relationship between TIEB and the military government emerged and operates. First, it offers a critical account of Thailand’s institutional and political development, including the link between the military coup and the installation of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) as the government administration. Next, it reviews Thailand’s energy landscape and future challenges, and the historical steps that led to the establishment of TIEB. Finally, it applies three analytical tools from historical institutionalism—a perspective that examines how institutions and past decisions shape current policy—to assess whether such an interrelation exists and, if so, how strong it is.
