Abstract
This thesis examines how right-wing populist parties in Slovakia and Denmark—the Danish People’s Party (DF) and People’s Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS)—framed immigration between 2015 and 2020, despite both countries experiencing limited direct effects of the migration crisis. Drawing on securitization theory, social identity theory, and the concept of Islamophobia, it employs a qualitative framing analysis of party publications. The analysis focuses on four dimensions: components of national identity, the portrayal of migrants as a threat, attribution of blame to other actors, and the identification of positive actors and solutions. Findings indicate that both parties present immigration—particularly from the Middle East and North Africa—as a security issue and justify policies aimed at protecting the nation, yet they differ in their approaches and in how national identity is constructed. The study offers a nuanced account of commonalities and differences in advancing anti-immigration agendas across two distinct national contexts.
