Abstract
Lysfeltskærme har fordele frem for traditionelle stereoskopiske head-mounted displays, fordi øjnene kan fokusere naturligt på forskellige dybder og dermed undgår den såkaldte konvergens-akkommodationskonflikt, som ofte giver ubehag. At gengive et lysfelt er beregningstungt, fordi der skal laves mange næsten ens billeder, og meget information går igen. Vi undersøger pixel-reprojektion: Ud fra billeder fra nogle få hjørnekameraer syntetiserer vi de resterende synsvinkler ved at omplacere pixels. Vi sammenligner de reprojekterede billeder med billeder, der er renderet uafhængigt, i en brugertest. I de fleste tilfælde kunne deltagerne ikke se forskel; i ekstreme tilfælde kan metoden dog ikke skabe et korrekt lysfelt. Samlet set kan pixel-reprojektion levere acceptabel billedkvalitet til lysfeltgengivelse, men beregningstiden skal ned, før metoden er praktisk anvendelig.
Light field displays offer advantages over traditional stereoscopic head-mounted displays because they let the eyes converge and focus at the same distance, avoiding the vergence-accommodation conflict that can cause discomfort. However, rendering a light field is computationally heavy because it requires many slightly different images, and much information is repeated across views. We investigate pixel reprojection: starting from images rendered from a few corner viewpoints, we reproject their pixels to synthesize the remaining views. We ran a user study comparing these reprojected images with images rendered independently. In most cases, participants could not tell them apart; in extreme cases, the approach fails to produce a correct light field. Overall, pixel reprojection can deliver acceptable visual quality for light-field rendering, but rendering time must be reduced before the method is practical.
