Abstract
This master’s thesis examines how a tectonic approach can integrate engineering precision with architectural expression to bridge the spectacular realm of theatre and everyday urban life. Grounded in Kenneth Frampton’s theory of tectonics, the work combines a theoretical study with analyses of theatre’s social and technical dimensions, case studies of historical theatre typologies, a study trip, and a context analysis of Berlin to establish design parameters for a site-specific theatre. Through a design process of analysis, sketching, and synthesis, the project tests floating, on-land, and hybrid configurations and develops spatial organization, audience experiences, light and privacy strategies, as well as structural, material, and sustainable solutions.
