Abstract

Byer står over for komplekse, langsigtede udfordringer, der kræver robust, borgerinddragende planlægning.

Cities face complex, long-term challenges that call for resilient, citizen-engaged planning. This thesis examines how Service Design and Foresight can be adapted to urban renewal in Copenhagen, focusing on translating citizens’ visions into actionable strategies. Using a research-through-design approach, the authors explored urban planning and futuring practices, gathered insights from stakeholders, and applied service design methods to shape a final concept. The outcome is PlaceToBe, a service for the Copenhagen Municipality’s urban renewal department that combines a participatory digital platform with the Lenses Framework—a tool to analyze future visions across local context, social, political, environmental, economic, technological, and legal layers. The work highlights the value of systemic and participatory perspectives in navigating urban complexity and shows how foresight methods can strengthen future-proofed planning processes.
