Abstract

This thesis examines how better nationwide access to nature in Denmark can be achieved through collaboration among multiple actors within a complex network. The central case is the establishment of a national database for nature-based geodata, initiated by a North Jutland municipal collaboration and later gaining national attention, with the aim of consolidating data and improving access for the public and for staff in municipalities and state agencies. The conceptual and theoretical framework addresses differing understandings of nature and accessibility, applies Actor-Network Theory and the geographic dimensions of scale, space, and time to unpack network complexity, and adds practical insights on co-creation through a minor case involving the company Urban Goods. Empirically, the study draws on interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, analyzed using open and concept coding. The analysis maps relationships in the network, identifies key challenges, and outlines approaches to strengthen collaboration. The thesis concludes that acknowledging diverse perspectives and temporal dynamics is essential, that co-creation requires respecting varied approaches, and that traditional governance structures should be rethought to enable more holistic solutions to complex tasks such as nationwide nature accessibility. It ends with reflections on generalizability and broader governance challenges.

Afslutningsvis reflekteres over fundenes generaliserbarhed og overordnede forvaltningsmæssige udfordringer.
