Abstract

This thesis applies information-theoretic modeling to analyze femtocell performance, focusing on a transmission scheme based on superposition coding. A representative femtocell network is defined and compared against two state-of-the-art reference scenarios: (i) one dedicated home base station (HBS) per user and (ii) single-user beamforming. The problem is formulated in information-theoretic terms, including rate analysis and multiple-access channel constraints, and evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations over selected optimization parameters. The study is positioned within the literature on base station selection, beamforming with time-sharing, Wyner models, and prior work by O. Simeone. Specific performance outcomes are not included in this excerpt.
