Abstract

This project deals with the design and development of a housing com- munity in Nuuk - the capital of Greenland. It is a place where landscapes, climate and solar conditions are important aspects in achieving an environ- mentally and socially sustainable design. With our homes likely being the place where most of our time is spent - the quality of the physical environ- ment, the indoor climate and daylight have an influence on our daily lives and well-being. The design focuses on creating a home for Greenlandic people that allows the Greenlanders to continue and develop their cultural identity and life- style. The design acknowledges the fact that many people who live on Greenland enjoy fishing and hunting and have many tools and much cloth- ing to cope with the climate, which has to be dealt with in a functional and environmentally efficient envelope.
