Abstract
This paper is concerned with the transformation process of Hammershus from an old ruin into a modern visitor centre that fulfill the needs of today. The communication of the history of Hammershus has been the focal point throughout the whole project. This includes the history of the location, the original purpose of the castle and the communication of the history of the new building. In the work with the new visitor centre the transition from a busy tourist attraction into spatialities, where concentration and contemplation is possible has been in focus. In addition to the architectural principles, there has been assigned a high priority to a sustainable approach. The making of the visitor centre is based on Naturstyrelsens program for a new visitor centre at Hammershus and take their requests and demands as its starting point.
