Abstract

This thesis examines photogrammetry—the process of building 3D models from overlapping photographs—and its application in lighting design. It offers a clear, descriptive overview of techniques and approaches and the challenges they raise. Through multiple use cases, it highlights key parts of the workflow, including image-capturing strategies, de-lighting (removing shadows and highlights so surfaces can be relit), and digital workflows. It then discusses how automation could streamline the process and benefit the field, and proposes a prototype design for an automated photogrammetry platform.
