Abstract
This project examines a new idea: using drones to remove ice (de-icing) and perform maintenance on wind turbines. It begins with an introduction to the wind energy sector to explain how ice on turbine blades lowers energy output and can halt operations, and why a cost-effective solution is needed for de-icing and other tasks. The study then evaluates a drone-based system and its technology maturity to understand its capabilities and limits for the industry. The findings show strong potential: drones could carry out these tasks and reduce downtime caused by icing. However, the technology is not yet mature enough for routine, day-to-day operations, even though successful tests have been conducted.
