Abstract
This thesis presents a context-aware system that lets people control a smart home using gestures. Small Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons placed around the home locate a smartwatch-wearing user indoors, and gesture recognition runs on the watch itself. When a gesture is detected, the system combines the gesture and the user’s position to infer context (such as which room they are in) and adjusts connected devices to an appropriate state. We describe the design and implementation of a prototype and discuss results from a user study focused on the prototype.
