This master’s thesis develops a housing complex for Runavik in the Faroe Islands as an “architecture of resistance”—an approach to designing for harsh, windy conditions while reinforcing local identity. The central question is how contemporary housing can offer comfortable, distinctive spaces in a severe climate by interpreting vernacular traditions through a modern lens. The work combines theoretical framing (critical regionalism, tectonics, cultural identity) with multi-scalar readings of the archipelago, fjord, town and site, alongside reviews of Faroese housing culture, landscape and outdoor space.
