Abstract
This thesis develops a proposal for an information and adventure centre in the Norwegian mountain landscape of Røyrvik to showcase the municipality’s qualities, attract both tourists and locals, and encourage engagement with nature and outdoor activities. The core question is how to unite structural, aesthetic, and functional aims in a building rooted in Norwegian architecture and material use while responding to a harsh, spectacular site. Methodologically, the work employs an inside-out/outside-in design process grounded in preliminary studies of the site and users, local climate and resource conditions (sun, wind, snow, vegetation, water, and rock), and a review of Norwegian architectural traditions and tectonics. Relevant precedents are examined, followed by development of the program, requirements, and design parameters. Through iterative form and structural explorations—including a phenomenological approach and the idea of “tectonic meets stereotomic”—a coherent concept is shaped. The project addresses facade and material considerations and technical aspects such as acoustics, fire, and ventilation, alongside potential structural solutions, supported by calculations and drawings (plans, sections, and elevations). The work culminates in an architectural proposal intended to frame views, communicate local history, and provide a gateway to nature, aiming to strengthen Røyrvik’s profile and reduce pass-through tourism.
Dette speciale udvikler et forslag til et informations- og oplevelsescenter i Røyrviks norske fjeldlandskab for at synliggøre kommunens kvaliteter, tiltrække både turister og lokale og invitere til natur- og friluftsaktiviteter. Projektets centrale spørgsmål er, hvordan en bygning kan forene struktur, æstetik og funktion med udgangspunkt i norsk arkitektur og materialebrug og samtidig reagere på et barskt, storslået sted. Metodisk bygger arbejdet på en inde-ud/ude-ind designproces baseret på forundersøgelser af stedet og dets brugere, klima- og ressourceforhold (sol, vind, sne, vegetation, vand og klippe), samt studier af norsk arkitektur og tektonik. Relevante referenceprojekter undersøges, hvorefter program, krav og designparametre defineres. Gennem iterative form- og strukturstudier, herunder en fænomenologisk tilgang og begrebet “tektonisk møder stereotomisk”, udvikles et sammenhængende koncept. Projektet omfatter overvejelser om facade og materialer samt tekniske aspekter som akustik, brand, ventilation og mulige konstruktionsløsninger, understøttet af beregninger og tegninger (planer, snit og opstalter). Arbejdet munder ud i et arkitektonisk forslag, der skal indramme udsigter, formidle lokal historie og skabe et afsæt for at opleve naturen, med henblik på at styrke Røyrviks profil og modvirke gennemkørende turisme.
