EU er i høj grad afhængig af import af primære energikilder, ofte fra politisk eller økonomisk ustabile regioner, og denne afhængighed er vokset. Siden begyndelsen af 2000’erne har EU fremmet energieffektivitet og brugen af vedvarende energikilder, som har et betydeligt potentiale. Alligevel er der store forskelle mellem medlemslandene i, hvor meget de bruger vedvarende energi. Denne afhandling undersøger, hvad der står i vejen for en bredere implementering af vedvarende energi. The European Union relies heavily on imports of primary energy, often from politically or economically unstable regions, and this dependence has been growing. Since the early 2000s, the EU has promoted energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, which have significant potential. Yet member states differ widely in how much they use renewables. This thesis examines what stands in the way of wider deployment of renewable energy. It applies three analytical lenses—path dependence (how past decisions shape current options), intergenerational change (how attitudes and practices shift across generations), and the multi-level perspective (how innovations interact with existing systems and the broader context)—to two case studies: Denmark and Slovakia. Using these frameworks and country data, the study identifies six main barriers that hinder the implementation of renewable energy sources.
