Abstract
This master’s thesis explores what it takes to build an online community around creating V‑Tuber models—the animated avatars used by virtual YouTubers—on social media. It finds that V‑Tubers and their fans form a "diffused audience": people spread across platforms and time who are drawn together by performance and visual spectacle. The study analyzes YouTube and Discord using the honeycomb model of social media, a framework for assessing how well each platform’s features support community building. The thesis concludes that Discord is the preferable platform for creating such a community and outlines a concept for how to establish it on Discord.
