Abstract

Omtrent en tredjedel af al mad går til spilde globalt. En stor del ødelægges under transport, men det kan mindskes ved at overvåge forsendelser med trådløse sensornetværk—små, kabelfrie enheder, der indsamler og deler data. Denne afhandling beskriver, hvilke krav sådanne systemer skal opfylde, og hvilke udfordringer der opstår i praksis. Den ser på, hvordan sensorerne placeres og vedligeholdes, hvordan de kommunikerer, og hvordan de forsynes med strøm. Derudover rummer den en cost–benefit-analyse, der vurderer, om transportovervågning kan betale sig økonomisk.

About one third of all food is wasted worldwide. A large share spoils during transport, but this can be reduced by monitoring shipments with wireless sensor networks—small, cable-free devices that collect and share data. This thesis explains what such systems must achieve and the practical hurdles to making them work. It examines how sensors are deployed and maintained, how they communicate, and how they are powered. It also includes a cost–benefit analysis to assess whether transport monitoring is economically worthwhile.
