Abstract
Cities are changing quickly, and urban design needs a fresh perspective. This master’s thesis focuses on urban voids—underused spaces within the built environment—as a key resource with hidden potential that could become central to future urban development. The thesis develops a concept for turning these spaces into catalysts for improvements in their surroundings. It combines analysis, a pragmatic design proposal, established theory, and a case study to show how the idea can work in practice. The design balances practicality, economic feasibility, and creativity to build a realistic understanding of the site and to inspire wider use of urban voids in urban design. The outcome is a clear and evocative vision of urban voids as drivers of urban development, supported by technical information that demonstrates the feasibility of the approach.
