Abstract
Against the backdrop of urgent socio‑ecological challenges and the sudden shift to social distancing during COVID‑19, this thesis examines how Urban Living Labs (ULLs) use information and communication technologies (ICTs) to pursue sustainable urban transformation. It asks how ULLs participate in urban governance, which ICTs support sustainability transitions and co‑creation, how these tools are applied in practice, and whether online engagement can replace face‑to‑face work. The study combines a theoretical review of ULLs, co‑creation and ICTs with a scan and assessment of digital tools, and case analyses of three ULLs—TeRRIFICA, SYNCITY (Vienna) and ParticipaLab at MediaLab Prado (Madrid)—drawing on project materials, interviews and a webinar on remote participation. The toolbox is classified by purpose, ownership, independence, technical difficulty and usability to inform selection in co‑creation contexts. Findings indicate that ICTs can, and under distancing requirements must, supplement physical engagement, but they are not a panacea: effective co‑creation and governance remain strongly dependent on in‑person interaction. The thesis therefore points to blended approaches that combine digital and physical practices as a pragmatic path for ULLs during and beyond the pandemic.
Med udgangspunkt i presserende socio‑økologiske udfordringer og det pludselige skift til fysisk afstand under COVID‑19 undersøger dette speciale, hvordan Urban Living Labs (ULL’er) bruger informations- og kommunikationsteknologier (IKT) til at fremme bæredygtig byomdannelse. Specialet stiller spørgsmålene: hvordan ULL’er deltager i urban styring, hvilke IKT’er der kan understøtte bæredygtige omstillinger og samskabelse, hvordan de bruges i praksis, og om online inddragelse kan erstatte fysiske aktiviteter. Tilgangen kombinerer en teoretisk gennemgang af ULL’er, samskabelse og IKT med en kortlægning og vurdering af digitale værktøjer samt casestudier af tre ULL’er—TeRRIFICA, SYNCITY (Wien) og ParticipaLab på MediaLab Prado (Madrid)—baseret på projektmateriale, interviews og et webinar om fjern deltagelse.
