Abstract

This thesis examines how knitters build and present their online identities through their craft. It looks at how a connection to handmade work shapes their values and the ways they describe themselves. It also explores how knitting is used to express views on sustainability in a connected, globalised society. The study draws on discourse analysis (the study of how language and communication create meaning) and on research about globalisation, identity, and consumption.
