Abstract

Arbejdet præsenteres i to artikler.

This thesis explores how to help consumers shift parts of their household electricity use to other times. The work is presented in two articles. In the first, we design and implement FlexiViz, an eco-feedback display - a simple visualization that shows people their electricity use and prompts them to reflect on moving some consumption. In the second, we study consumers' understanding, motivation, and interests regarding shifting electricity use at home. We use FlexiViz as a technology probe, that is, a prototype deployed to spark discussion and learn how people talk about flexibility and moving appliance use. We conclude with practical proposals for engaging users to shift electricity consumption.
