Abstract
This thesis describes the process and final design of a school for teenagers who live on campus, located on the west coast of Northern Jutland. Sustainability is the main theme, with green roofs (roofs planted with vegetation) as a key design feature. The goal is a learning environment balanced with recreation and personal maturity for young people living away from home. Informed by research on healing architecture—the idea that the built environment can support calmness and concentration—the design maximizes views of nature and provides high levels of daylight. The rough, dramatic coastal landscape guided the overall layout, so the school adapts to its surroundings. The result is a school complex integrated into the landscape, with a modest yet sharp appearance.
