Toward Organizing Practices Against Harassment and Precarious Working Conditions: An Intersectional Perspective

Abstract
We conducted in-depth individual interviews and a focus group with female migrant students who work. We asked how knowledge about precarious working conditions—such as insecure hours, weak protection, and unstable income—and harassment can be shared in social circles to help others avoid these harms. Based on participants’ accounts, we co-designed a practical proposal for how migrant student workers can organize against harassment and precarious jobs. The proposal also seeks to make visible and analyze how multiple inequalities intersect: gender, financial disadvantage, being non-Danish, EU or non-EU citizenship, age, limited work experience, being a university student, and limited knowledge of labor rights and employment status. Our analysis draws on three frameworks: intersectionality (how different inequalities combine), knowledge distribution (how information circulates and is accessed), and organizational learning (how groups learn and change practices over time).
I dette studie gennemførte vi dybdegående individuelle interviews og en fokusgruppe med kvindelige migrantstuderende, der arbejder. Vi undersøgte, hvordan viden om prekære arbejdsvilkår—fx usikre arbejdstider, lav beskyttelse og ustabil indkomst—og om chikane kan deles i sociale fællesskaber, så andre kan undgå at komme i samme situation. Med afsæt i deltagernes erfaringer har vi samskabt et praktisk forslag til, hvordan migrantstuderende kan organisere sig mod chikane og usikre job. Forslaget skal også synliggøre, hvordan flere uligheder overlapper: at være kvinde, økonomisk udsat, ikke-dansker, EU- eller ikke-EU-borger, alder, begrænset erhvervserfaring, at være universitetsstuderende samt begrænset kendskab til arbejdsrettigheder og ansættelsesforhold, og analysere hvordan disse faktorer spiller sammen. Vores analyse bygger på tre perspektiver: intersektionalitet (hvordan forskellige uligheder kombineres), vidensdeling (hvordan information spredes og er tilgængelig) og organisatorisk læring (hvordan grupper lærer og ændrer praksis over tid).
