Abstract

This thesis examines how social entrepreneurship in tourism can contribute to socio-economic and socio-cultural development in Bangladesh. It focuses on the role of government in fostering social entrepreneurship and the opportunities for tourism-led development, with particular attention to local participation and poverty alleviation. The study adopts a qualitative, exploratory case study centered on Start-up Bangladesh, a government funding initiative. Data are collected through semi-structured interviews and a focus group, and the COVID-19 context informed the research direction. The analysis addresses themes of innovation, government collaboration, venture capital and start-up support, community participation, and links to sustainable development, while highlighting challenges such as access to capital and limited knowledge and education in social entrepreneurship. Although the excerpt does not report final findings, the thesis aims to illuminate how policy and support mechanisms can encourage tourism social entrepreneurship as a tool for inclusive growth and social development in Bangladesh.
