Abstract
Denne undersøgelse afdækker, hvad der motiverer turister til at vælge en wellnessferie, med fokus på et wellness-resort i Rumænien. Vi stiller to spørgsmål: (1) Hvad motiverer turister til at besøge et wellness-resort? og (2) Er der forskelle i motivation på tværs af aldersgrupper? Med en kvalitativ tilgang i et socialkonstruktivistisk perspektiv—som ser motivation som formet af sociale erfaringer—gennemgik vi eksisterende litteratur og interviewede turister under en studietur til resortet i Rumænien. Analysen bygger på push–pull-rammen. Push-faktorer er indre grunde, der “skubber” folk til at rejse; pull-faktorer er destinationens kendetegn, der “trækker” dem til. Vi fandt, at centrale push-faktorer var ønsket om afslapning, at vedligeholde eller forbedre helbredet, at socialisere samt for nogle at trække sig fra dagligdagens sociale sammenhænge. Pull-faktorer omfattede særlige træk ved resortet, især termalbade og et bredt udvalg af faciliteter og behandlinger. Elementer som natlige bade, guidede saunaprogrammer med en saunamester og adgang til medicinsk center gjorde destinationen ekstra attraktiv for dem, der efterspørger sådanne ydelser. This study explores what motivates tourists to choose a wellness holiday, focusing on a wellness resort in Romania. It asks two questions: (1) What motivates tourists to visit a wellness resort? and (2) Do motivations differ across age groups? Using a qualitative, social constructivist approach—which views motivation as shaped by social experiences—we reviewed existing literature and interviewed tourists during a study trip to the Romanian resort. The analysis applied the push–pull motivation framework. Push factors are internal reasons that “push” people to travel; pull factors are destination features that “pull” them in. Key push factors were the desire to relax, maintain or improve health, socialize, and, for some, step away from everyday social settings. Pull factors included distinctive attributes of the resort, especially thermal baths and a wide range of facilities and treatments. Features such as nocturnal bathing, guided sauna programs with a sauna master, and access to a medical center made the destination particularly attractive to those seeking these services. The study also explored possible differences between age groups, but the main results highlight shared motivations across visitors. Overall, tourists are more likely to choose a wellness resort when its services clearly match their personal needs and expectations.
