This thesis examines the reconstruction of Klostergaarden as a socio-technical network in an urban core, where a new apartment building replaces a burned and demolished institutional building with strong local significance. Grounded in social constructivism, Science and Technology Studies, and techno-anthropology, the study seeks to reveal why and how the project is perceived as (potentially) controversial and which actor relations shape the process. The theoretical framework draws on Latour’s actor-network concepts and discourse analysis (Laclau & Mouffe), alongside design theory that illuminates the roles of experts and users. The empirical approach includes site visits, observations, informal conversations with passersby, and journalistic sources, followed by systematic data collection and coding.
