Abstract
Specialet undersøger, hvordan arkitektur kan være både miljømæssigt og etisk bæredygtig. Det fokuserer på low-tech tilgange (enkle, ressourceeffektive løsninger tilpasset lokale forhold) og på de sanselige kvaliteter ved rum for børn (hvordan steder ser ud, føles og lyder). Rapporten præsenterer et bæredygtigt center for børn i Kampala, Uganda. En integreret designproces er brugt til samlet at finde æstetiske, funktionelle og tekniske løsninger. Konklusionen viser, hvordan arkitektur til børn kan være en bæredygtig løsning i udviklingslande set fra både etiske og miljømæssige synsvinkler.
This thesis examines how architecture can be both environmentally and ethically sustainable. It focuses on low-tech approaches (simple, resource-efficient solutions suited to local conditions) and on the sensory experience of spaces for children (how places look, feel and sound). The work presents a design for a sustainable children's center in Kampala, Uganda. An integrated design process was used to consider aesthetics, function and technical performance together. The thesis concludes that child-centered architecture can offer sustainable solutions in developing countries from both ethical and environmental perspectives.
