Abstract

This thesis examines how the rules, organizations, and norms that make up a country’s institutional structure shape the competitiveness of domestic companies in West Africa. It also explores how legal frameworks can enable industries to compete in international markets. The study discusses institutional origins (where institutions come from), the dependency ratio (how reliant different parts of the system are on one another), and ways to assess institutional maturity (how established, predictable, and effective institutions are). Ghana, as an emerging market, is compared with Denmark, a developed market with mature institutions, to highlight similarities and differences that may influence business performance at home and abroad.
