Abstract

This thesis examines what seasonality means for a tourism destination—the recurring peaks and lows in visitor numbers across the year—with a particular focus on the hospitality sector as accommodation providers. It discusses the strategies used by both accommodation businesses and public authorities to reduce seasonality’s impact on the region. The case study focuses on the Danish island of Møn. Data were collected through a survey complemented by interviews with relevant stakeholders. The material reveals differing perspectives on seasonality and how it can be both beneficial and challenging for a UNESCO-protected island. The thesis maps initiatives at both governmental and private levels that aim to mitigate the effects of seasonality on the destination.
