Abstract

This thesis examined whether a seven‑week strength training program centered on either power cleans or loaded hex bar jumps can enhance physical performance in U17 elite soccer and handball players. Forty athletes (22 soccer, 18 handball) were randomized to a hex bar group (HX) or a power clean group (PC). After three familiarization sessions, all participants completed pre‑ and post‑tests of power clean 1RM, power output in loaded hex bar jumps (21, 41, 61, 81 kg), countermovement jump (CMJ), sprints (5, 10, 25, 30 m), and 505 change of direction across two test days. Outcomes were analyzed with t‑tests. Both groups increased CMJ height and power clean 1RM. The HX group showed faster change‑of‑direction times but lower power at 21 and 41 kg in the hex bar jump. The PC group showed higher power at 81 kg, lower at 41 kg, and slower 10 m and 25 m sprint times. Between‑group comparisons revealed no significant differences for any performance measure. Overall, power cleans and loaded hex bar jumps appeared similarly effective over seven weeks, with some exercise‑specific differences but no clear superiority.
