Abstract
Danish construction is moving toward greater sustainability. At the same time, the many different definitions, certification schemes, and standards do not always support progress. This thesis, completed as a master’s graduation project at Aalborg University Copenhagen, evaluates how the DGNB certification influences working practices in sustainable design. DGNB is a certification system for sustainable buildings. Its role in supporting collaboration and innovation was assessed through a case study at the architecture firm Arkinord A/S. The analysis shows that DGNB makes architects’ design decisions more deliberate, improves collaboration among project participants, and provides a strong basis for cross-disciplinary innovation.
