Abstract

This master’s project at Aalborg University’s Architecture, Design & Media Technology (AD:MT) program is the result of one year of work during fall 2013 and spring 2014. It has two parts—a theoretical study and a design proposal—on the same topic: an architectural approach to urban farming, with emphasis on architectural space, meaning how spaces are shaped and experienced. In collaboration with the City of Aalborg, amid growing interest in urban farming among residents and municipal planners, the project proposes a way to address a specific branch of urban farming centered on the Aalborg fjord. The theoretical study develops a framework for using careful spatial design to guide the architectural treatment of urban farming.
