Abstract
This thesis explores the link between Boko Haram’s armed insurgency and the humanitarian crisis in northern Cameroon. It starts from the observation that terrorism in the 21st century drives displacement, including refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), food insecurity, disease spread, and loss of life. To trace this link, the study reviews Boko Haram’s objectives, how its activities evolved in northern Cameroon, and the casualties caused by its attacks. It then examines how the Government of Cameroon, non-governmental organizations, and United Nations humanitarian agencies have responded to the crisis, and the challenges they face. The thesis concludes with findings on how violence shapes humanitarian needs and offers recommendations to improve protection and assistance.
