Abstract
Specialet tager udgangspunkt i den høje forekomst af diabetes i Mauritius og undersøger, hvordan kultur påvirker forebyggelse. Med en techno-antropologisk tilgang (en kombination af antropologi og teknologistudier) belyses, hvordan hverdagspraksisser, normer, organisationer og digitale værktøjer påvirker forebyggende indsatser. This thesis starts from the high prevalence of diabetes in Mauritius and examines how culture shapes prevention. Using a techno-anthropological approach (combining anthropology and technology studies), it explores how everyday practices, norms, organizations, and digital tools influence prevention efforts. The study includes a thorough review of existing research and empirical fieldwork. Fieldwork focused on two Mauritian NGOs involved in diabetes prevention. Finally, the thesis examines how the ideas of health literacy (people’s ability to find, understand, and use health information) and eHealth literacy (doing so with digital media and tools) can support the design of future prevention programs.
