Abstract

This project looks at the difficulties that motion capture novices encounter when trying out Rokoko motion capture with Vive tracking for the first time. The thesis focuses on giving an overview of motion capture options that are available on the market but primarily on lower budget solutions for the actual experimental part of the study, specifically Rokoko smart suit. Through action research, valuable information on how the industry uses the equipment and what kind of considerations and problems that occurs under real use conditions. This study also performed a user test to see what problems novices encountered. It was found that most of the problems associated with the motion capture system derived from external problems that were usually not within power of the novice users to solve. The experiment showed that besides glitches and connection issues, users had more problems with the physical part of setting up than the technical part.
