Abstract
This thesis investigates how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) can contribute to sustainable competitive advantage in the Danish building sector. It examines employees’ familiarity with GHRM, the extent to which practices are implemented, and how these practices may influence environmental sustainability and firm competitiveness. The study combines a literature review with an online questionnaire distributed to 181 employees, yielding 31 responses. Data are analyzed in SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistics, including reliability tests and a Relative Importance Index. Based on the survey outputs, a SWOT analysis is conducted to map strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for GHRM, and a VRIO framework is applied to evaluate whether the identified resources and capabilities can serve as a source of sustained competitive advantage. The thesis also considers the alignment of HRM with environmental management and the roles of HR managers and leaders in enabling green initiatives. The findings are used to assess the potential of GHRM as a driver of sustainable competitiveness among Danish construction firms.
