Abstract
This thesis examines how stakeholder collaboration can support the integration of the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainable tourism, focusing on the Green Teams in the Slovenian destinations of Kamnik and Maribor within the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism (GSST). The study uses a qualitative approach combining document analysis and in-depth interviews with Green Team members and local actors conducted during a field visit in April 2017. Analysis of collaboration and related projects reveals challenges in public–private relations—limited awareness of sustainability, low trust, and weak civil-society involvement—that undermine the quality of cooperative arrangements and the linking of sustainability’s three pillars. The thesis recommends awareness-raising and experiential education, along with engaging a neutral, independent intermediary such as the voluntary sector, to sustain engagement, build mutual benefits, and address conflicts constructively. While ideal solutions are unattainable, the focus should shift from imposed trade-offs and reputational optics toward long-term, mutually beneficial measures. The findings inform recommendations for the Green Teams, local stakeholders, the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Institute for Sustainable Tourism GoodPlace, and point to further research on refining the GSST to better integrate the three pillars.
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan samarbejde mellem interessenter kan understøtte integrationen af de økonomiske, miljømæssige og sociale dimensioner af bæredygtig turisme, med fokus på Green Teams i de slovenske destinationer Kamnik og Maribor under Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism (GSST). Undersøgelsen bygger på kvalitativ metode med dokumentanalyse og dybdegående interviews med medlemmer af Green Teams og lokale aktører under en feltrejse i april 2017. Gennemgangen af samarbejdet og relaterede projekter identificerer udfordringer i relationen mellem offentlige og private aktører, herunder manglende bevidsthed om bæredygtighed, lav tillid og begrænset inddragelse af civilsamfundet, hvilket svækker kvaliteten af de samarbejdende ordninger og sammenkoblingen af bæredygtighedens tre søjler.
