Abstract
Projektet handler om at designe et nyt badehotel ved Grenen i Skagen. Idéen udspringer af en lokal plan for Skagen fra 2014, som pegede på potentialet for at genskabe et internationalt badehotel på Grenen. Samtidig åbnede et politisk flertal i Folketinget i august 2014 for et forsøgsprogram, der skulle fremme kyst- og naturturisme, og som gav op til ti områder mulighed for dispensation til at opføre boliger eller turistfaciliteter på trods af kystbeskyttelsesreglerne. Det tidligere badehotel var et vartegn for Skagen: et luksuriøst sted med en enestående beliggenhed. Mit projekt søger ikke at kopiere fortiden, men at skabe en nutidig arkitektonisk løsning, der passer til vores tid. Dagens gæster efterspørger mindre traditionel luksus og mere autentiske, unikke oplevelser. Derfor er bygningen tænkt med stor respekt for naturen, lavt energiforbrug og et godt indeklima. This project focuses on designing a new seaside hotel at Grenen in Skagen. The idea grew out of a 2014 local plan for Skagen that identified the potential to re-establish an international seaside hotel at Grenen. It also relates to a parliamentary decision in August 2014 to launch a pilot program aimed at promoting coastal and nature tourism, allowing up to ten areas in Denmark to receive dispensations to build housing or tourist facilities despite coastal protection rules. The former seaside hotel was a landmark for Skagen—a luxurious destination with a unique location. My aim is not to imitate that historic building, but to create a contemporary architectural solution suited to today. Modern visitors tend to seek authentic, unique experiences rather than traditional luxury. With respect for the surrounding landscape and increasing energy requirements in architecture, the design prioritizes low energy use and a healthy indoor climate. Energy strategies have been optimized as far as possible while balancing the northern view and extensive north-facing glazing. The design draws on the distinctive dune landscape shaped by natural forces over thousands of years, and on the contrast between the soft, dynamic dunes and the heavy, static concrete bunkers from the war. The concept was developed through a methodical process using drifting (site walks) and mapping (mapping exercises), which helped ground the project in its context. The result is a hotel with a modern expression that offers guests a relaxing sanctuary in close contact with nature. At the same time, the layout and flow between functions and levels in the main building are organized for efficient daily operations. The architecture frames nature as a central part of the experience and encourages guests to go outside, feel the strong westerly wind, and engage with the coastal landscape up close.
