Abstract
The study "Sexuality and sexual challenges in women with ADHD" is a qualitative, semi-structured interview study. The study looks for particular challenges with sexuality in 5 women with ADHD, one is also interested in the informants' explanatory models in relation to this. ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder, previously it was thought that it was mainly limited to childhood, and that it mainly affected boys. It is now known that it affects approximately as many girls as boys and that for most it is a lifelong condition. The symptom picture varies slightly between the sexes, and in women you mainly see problems with attention and concentration, and to a lesser extent elements of hyperactivity and impulsivity. Previous research has shown that women with ADHD experience sexual challenges such as orgasm problems, reduced desire and pain. They also experience more frequent sexual abuse, partner violence, sexually transmitted diseases, have more sexual partners and are generally less satisfied with their own sexuality. My interviews confirm this and explain it with concentration difficulties and attention deficits, as well as fear of rejection and desire for confirmation. This is important knowledge both for professionals who work with ADHD, and for sexologists and sexual counselors who meet patients in clinical practice and will therefore certainly meet people with ADHD.
