Abstract

This thesis examines how rural areas in Denmark are changing today and evaluates the future potential of rural settlement as a distinct typology. Through repeated cycles of an integrated design process that connects analysis and design, the study identifies a potential for a landscape settlement typology in rural areas linked to major urban regions. This approach builds on the strengths of local communities and their close relationship to nature and Denmark’s scenic landscapes. The idea is illustrated through a site-specific design located between the Triangle Region and Odense, selected for its mobility conditions and its relationship to the surrounding landscape.
