Abstract

This thesis investigates how servitization—the integration of services with physical products—is unfolding in the Danish manufacturing industry. Motivated by global competition and evidence that many Danish manufacturers still offer few or no services despite the country’s strong innovation profile, the study addresses two core questions: What is the current stage of servitization, and what drivers, challenges, and enablers shape Danish firms’ moves toward service-based offerings? Methodologically, it employs a qualitative multiple-case study of three manufacturers in North Jutland from different industries, complemented by interviews with company representatives and industry experts and informed by the relevant literature. The analysis explores firms’ motives, bottlenecks, and implications for business models and customer relationships. While detailed results are beyond this excerpt, the study identifies context-specific industry structures, drivers, and challenges shaping servitization in Denmark and offers practice-based insights for manufacturers initiating or advancing service-led strategies.
