Abstract

This project is focused on the construction of a three level neutral point clamped prototype converter, for a wind turbine application. The converter has to ensure the control for a vertical axis Darreius wind turbine, which has special requirements for the system. Two sensorless control strategies are proposed, implemented and tested in laboratory experiments, to determine the best method. The conclusion of the experiments is that sensorless field oriented control is the most adequate control to be implemented for this type of application.
