Abstract

A lot of research has been made in the automatic data exchange between BIM models and building performance simulation models such as EnergyPlus, IES-VE, etc… However, in many cases, it often requires very strict modelling practice and only works for specific software. This project work will be focused on using the approach developed by MOE A/S and AUU to combine Revit with Danish BE18 software. The developed method uses Dynamo engine to extract the required data from Autodesk Revit to Microsoft Excel where further modifications and computations take place. The same methodology will be used to transfer architectural model geometry from Revit to BSim’s wire-frame model. Consequently, as geometry representation in both software interfaces is different, the research will be made for Revit and BSim side independently. In addition, analysis of BSim XML file structure, model geometry requirements and data extraction possibilities from Revit will be carried out during the project. Finally, the main goal of this project is to develop a semi-automatic data transfer technique from Revit to BSim. In addition, this methodology should allow to successfully define the spaces in Autodesk Revit 2019 model and exchange geometry data from the architectural model to BSim XML file.
