Abstract
Sustainability is gaining attention worldwide, yet the social dimension often receives less focus than environmental and economic aspects. Social sustainability is closely tied to health and urban development and, in practice, concerns people’s well-being and social cohesion. In this thesis, I examine how social sustainability is portrayed in healthcare and what value it creates. I use the Danish municipality of Elsinore (Helsingør) as a case study, as it is building a new community health center. Over the past decade, “near healthcare” has been under development, but ongoing economic pressure and limited attention have strained the system. This has created readiness to move away from a mono-sequential treatment paradigm (a one-direction, step-by-step model focused on separate episodes) toward a more coherent and attentive way of providing care. Medicine has always relied on data, but in the process we risk losing the human being. To rewrite the story, we need to see the whole person and redefine the underlying healthcare paradigm.
Bæredygtighed fylder mere og mere globalt, men den sociale dimension får ofte mindre opmærksomhed end de miljømæssige og økonomiske sider. Social bæredygtighed hænger tæt sammen med sundhed og byudvikling og handler i praksis om menneskers trivsel og sammenhængskraft. I dette speciale undersøger jeg, hvordan social bæredygtighed bliver fremstillet i sundhedsvæsenet, og hvilken værdi den skaber. Som case har jeg valgt Helsingør Kommune, der er i gang med at opføre et nyt kommunalt sundhedscenter. I over et årti har det nære sundhedsvæsen været under udvikling, men vedvarende økonomisk pres og manglende opmærksomhed har sat systemet under pres. Det gør sundhedsvæsenet klar til et skifte væk fra et monosekventielt behandlingsparadigme (en ensrettet, trin-for-trin model med fokus på adskilte forløb) og hen imod en mere sammenhængende og opmærksom måde at levere pleje på. Medicin har altid handlet om data, men undervejs har vi risikeret at miste mennesket af syne. For at ændre fortællingen må vi se hele mennesket og gentænke sundhedsvæsenets grundlæggende paradigme.
