Abstract

This thesis focuses on designing a product to improve glove hygiene in hospitals and the broader healthcare sector. Inadequate hygiene can turn hospitals into hotspots for dangerous infections; in the United States, an estimated 75,000 people die each year from such infections. Clean hands are the first line of defense. Today, putting on disposable gloves can contaminate them because users often touch the outside surface while donning. This raises concerns and shows the need for better practices. The thesis presents SAHD, an automated glove dispenser and glove-donning device that replaces much of the usual manual process, so users do not touch the outside of the glove. This helps keep hands and gloves clean and makes the process faster than current methods. The project was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Limited access to hospitals for observation and testing delayed parts of the development.

Denne afhandling handler om at designe et produkt, der forbedrer handskehygiejne på hospitaler og i sundhedssektoren. Utilstrækkelig hygiejne kan gøre hospitaler til hotspots for farlige infektioner; i USA anslås sådanne infektioner at være dødelige for omkring 75.000 mennesker om året. Rene hænder er første forsvarslinje. I dag kan det at tage engangshandsker på forurene dem, fordi brugere ofte rører ved ydersiden under påtagning. Det giver anledning til bekymring og peger på behovet for bedre rutiner. Afhandlingen præsenterer SAHD, en automatiseret handskeautomat og en enhed til påtagning, der erstatter store dele af den sædvanlige manuelle proces, så brugeren ikke berører ydersiden.
