Abstract
Dette speciale undersøger befolkningsnedgang i skrumpende byer med Parkstad Limburg som case og et særligt fokus på Kerkrade. Formålet er at udvikle en holistisk, scenariebaseret bydesignramme, der kan støtte regenerering ved at betragte regionen som én samlet enhed frem for adskilte kommuner. Undersøgelsen spørger overordnet, hvordan en fælles, netværksbaseret tilgang kan styrke sammenhæng og livskvalitet, og introducerer begreberne en 'urban connector' og katalysator som drivere for koordineret udvikling af lokalområders kerner. Metodisk kombineres litteraturstudier (peer‑reviewede artikler, bøger og andre kilder), historisk og nutidig analyse af Parkstad og Kerkrade, onlineinterviews med regionale aktører samt designledt scenarieopbygning med konceptuelle forslag, zonering af en kreativ kerne og sammenkoblede tiltag på flere skalaer.
