Abstract
Dette speciale undersøger, hvordan rehabilitering og prisonisering opleves af indsatte i danske fængsler, og hvordan de to modsatrettede processer påvirker identiteten. Rehabilitering forstås som støtte til at leve et lovlydigt liv efter løsladelse, mens prisonisering er tilpasning til fængslets kultur, normer og uformelle regler. Undersøgelsen bygger på interviews med tre tidligere indsatte. Analysen bruger Pierre Bourdieus feltbegreb og Erving Goffmans institutionsteori til at beskrive fængslet som et socialt felt med officielle og uofficielle spilleregler. Derudover inddrages Donald Clemmers teori om prisonisering samt fund af Anja Leavins. Med afsæt i både de indsattes og personalets perspektiver undersøges, om spændingerne mellem rehabilitering og prisonisering skaber barrierer for det professionelle sociale arbejde i fængslet. Resultaterne peger på en klar sammenhæng mellem teori og praksis: Indsattes identiteter påvirkes i to modsatrettede retninger, og tilpasningen til fængselskulturen kan stå i vejen for rehabiliteringen og skabe barrierer for socialt arbejde.
This thesis examines how people in Danish prisons experience rehabilitation and prisonization, and how these opposing forces shape identity. Rehabilitation refers to support for living a law-abiding life after release, while prisonization means adapting to the prison’s culture, norms, and informal rules. The study is based on interviews with three former inmates. It uses Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of fields and Erving Goffman’s theory of institutions to understand the prison as a social field with official and unofficial rules. It also draws on Donald Clemmer’s theory of prisonization and findings by Anja Leavins. From both prisoner and staff perspectives, the thesis explores whether the tension between rehabilitation and prisonization creates barriers to professional social work inside prisons. Findings indicate a clear connection between theory and practice: prisoners’ identities are pulled in two opposite directions, and adaptation to prison culture can work against rehabilitation and create barriers for social work.
